Free Mover

Welcome to NOVA IMS!

Students who wish to spend a semester or a full academic year studying abroad outside formal exchange programmes may apply to study at NOVA IMS as Free Mover Students. As a Free Mover, you can choose from a wide range of course units taught in English, available each academic year.

Who is it for?

This programme is intended for Bachelor’s and Master’s students from non-partner universities who are officially enrolled in a degree programme at their home institution.

* Non-partner universities are universities that do not have a bilateral agreement with NOVA IMS.

Important Information

Important Information

Free Mover students are not registered as regular degree-seeking students at NOVA IMS and are therefore not eligible to complete a full degree programme at NOVA IMS.

Matters related to admission and enrolment, travel and accommodation, visa applications and renewals, and any other practical arrangements are the sole responsibility of the student and must be handled directly by the applicant.

Available Curricular Units

Bachelor’s Degree Course Units

Each academic year may include minor updates to the list of course units offered in English. However, significant changes from one year to the next are not expected.

Mobility/visiting students may choose course units from different Bachelor programmes and different years, including:

Master’s Degree Course Units

Limitations and Restrictions on Course Registration

Please note the following restrictions apply to all mobility and visiting students:

  • Limited vacancies: All course units have a limited number of places.
  • First come, first served: Availability may change during the enrolment period, as places are filled on a first come, first served basis.
  • Elective course activation: Elective course units may only be offered if a minimum number of students enrol. Confirmation can only be provided during the enrolment period.
  • Prerequisites: Some course units require prior knowledge of statistics/econometrics or computing/programming and may require approval by the course coordinator.
  • Study cycle compatibility: Students are expected to enrol in course units corresponding to the same cycle of studies they attend at their home institution (Bachelor or Master). Master’s students may attend undergraduate course units only in exceptional cases.
  • Course restrictions: Access to certain course units may be restricted for mobility/visiting students.

Timetable Overlaps

Some course units may overlap in schedule. To reduce the risk of overlapping timetables, we strongly recommend:

  • Preferred option: Choose course units from the same programme and year (lowest risk of overlap).
  • Alternative option: Choose course units within the same programme across adjacent years (e.g., 1st and 2nd year or 2nd and 3rd year) (moderate risk of overlap).

Students can enrol in a maximum of 5 curricular units per semester.
