Biografia

Marco Painho é presentemente Professor Catedrático na NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS). É coordenador do Programa Master of Science in Geospatial Technologies (Eramus Mundus) e do Mestrado em Ciência e Sistemas de Informação Geográfica. Os interesses académicos incluem Sistemas de Informação Geográfica, Sistemas de Informação de Recursos Naturais, Integração de Informação, Crowdsourced Geospatial Information, Análise Espacial, Educação e SIG, Infraestruturas de Informação. É licenciado em Engenharia do Ambiente pela Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Master of Regional Planning (MRP) pela University of Massachussetts, Doctor of Philosophy in Geography (Ph.D.) pela University of California e Agregado pela Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Desempenhou na NOVA IMS o cargo de Director entre 2000 e 2010. É autor e editor de mais de 200 publicações incluindo livros, capítulos de livros e artigos e actas de conferências científicas nacionais e internacionais. Tem colaborado como revisor no International Journal of Geographical Information Science, Photogrammetic Engineering and Remote Sensing, Environmental Modelling and Software, na European Conference on Information Systems e ainda em congressos nacionais da sua área. Foi avaliador do Programa Comunitário INFO2000 (conteúdo multimédia e informação geográfica) e consultor do Programa Europeu FORM-AMI. Coordenou cientificamente mais de 100 projectos de Investigação e Desenvolvimento, de prestação de serviços à comunidade e cooperação internacional. Exerceu os seguintes cargos científicos e profissionais internacionais: Membro do Comité Científico da Agência Europeia do Ambiente representante Português no Grupo de Cooperação Temática: Observação e Monitorização da Terra (no âmbito do IV Programa Quadro - Ambiente e Clima) Membro do Management Board e Steering Committee do European Topic Centre for Nature Conservation, Paris.
