Artificial Intelligence: what is the impact on the job market?

Detalhe da Notícia

Artificial Intelligence has revolutionized the way people work, with an impact on existing professions but also the creation of new areas.

It is no coincidence that, with the growing development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), several sectors of society have undergone major transformations, including the labor market, with traditional professions increasingly being replaced or adapted to an ever-expanding technological context.

This great development of automation and AI, which is revolutionizing the world of work, causes some fear around these technologies for their ability to reduce jobs currently occupied by humans.

However, Artificial Intelligence should be seen as a very beneficial ally to the world of work since, in addition to helping to improve and develop existing professional branches, it has created several new areas which allow the training of many professionals.

Artificial Intelligence: new opportunities

The opportunities arising from new Artificial Intelligence technologies, together with computing power, are indeed vast, and involve areas ranging from digital marketing, to control and forecast consumption trends, to the health business.

Today it is already possible, through data analysis, to monitor health data in real time, and algorithms are being created that will make it possible to calculate the probability of a person developing a disease and, consequently, prevent it in the most effective way.

There are even health establishments, such as the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, USA, which already uses Artificial Intelligence algorithms in order to help doctors interpret mammograms to screen for cancer.

According to experts from New York University, contacted by EFE, professions related to telemarketing, accounting, translation, teaching, programming and investments are some of those that will change the most as Artificial Intelligence develops. According to the University, other professions that appear among the 20 most affected are: mediators, judges, magistrates and professions related to the fields of sociology and political science.

New professions on the rise

With the development of Artificial Intelligence, new fields and professions requiring new skills have also emerged. Some examples are:

  • Data Scientist, specialists in analytical data with very specific skills and methods and high knowledge of technology and statistics;

  • Business Intelligence (BI), which uses specific tools with the goal of creating a distinct and profitable strategy for a company, assisting in making the best decisions. This area has been increasingly sought after, both by companies and by those wishing to pursue a career in the sector;

  • Machine learning engineers develop algorithms and models that allow machines to learn and improve their performance over time. They work in areas such as speech recognition and sentiment analysis, for example;

  • Cybersecurity analysts, professionals responsible for information security and protection of a company's computers, servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, and networks;

  • Automation and Robotics area, in which robots and autonomous systems are designed, built, and programmed through the use of Artificial Intelligence. These professionals are very relevant in Industry 4.0, where automation and AI play a central role.

According to the World Economic Forum, it takes up to three months for a professional to start developing skills in areas related to Artificial Intelligence. Therefore, tools using Artificial Intelligence algorithms can help create training programs customized to the skills of each worker.

There are also, increasingly, educational institutions that offer specializations in areas related to Artificial Intelligence, such as NOVA IMS.

NOVA IMS

AI and Data Science are two of the main drivers of economic and social development
, being at the basis of the 4th Industrial Revolution. The Degree in Data Science offered by NOVA IMS intends to strengthen the intermediate step between data collection and decision-making based on them.

The main objective of this course is to train future professionals able to understand, develop and use models, algorithms, and the most advanced techniques in data science to analyze and extract knowledge from Big Data. The goal is to train Data Scientists capable of extracting knowledge and using advanced models to deal with large volumes of data.

The remaining degrees, namely Information Management and Information Systems, are also related to this type of transformation in the labor market. NOVA IMS also offers post-graduate and master's degrees with different specializations in this area. Get to know all our educational offer here.
