Davide Accardi

Davide Accardi graduated cum laude in Marine Environmental Science from the University of Palermo in 2005. He spent the next three years as a researcher and assistant professor in the Zoology department before moving to Germany to pursue his PhD at the Max Planck Institute of Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden. His doctoral research focused on the self-organization and dynamics of intracellular molecules under the supervision of Dr. Iva Tolic, culminating in a cum laude graduation in 2012. Post-PhD, Dr. Accardi delved further into physics, specializing in optics and imaging analysis at the Max Planck Institute’s microscopy platform. His work contributed significantly to the development of light-sheet microscopy, heralded as the “method of the year” by Nature Method in 2014. Since August 2017, Dr. Accardi has been the director of the microscopy department at the Champalimaud Institute in Lisbon, where he oversees and supports around 200 scientific projects in Neuroscience and Cancer research.
