About the event

MagIC - Information Management Research Center is hosting the seminar "Does Social Media Use Really Harm Teenagers' Well-being?", exploring the complex relationship between social media and adolescent mental health.

As social media become an integral part of teenagers' daily lives, concerns about their impact on well-being continue to grow. While numerous studies have examined this relationship, findings remain inconclusive and open to interpretation.

In this seminar, Prof. Eoin Whelan from the University of Galway will present preliminary results from two research studies conducted with teenagers in Ireland, exploring how social media use interacts with stress, coping mechanisms, and overall well-being.

Through this discussion, Prof. Whelan will offer a nuanced perspective on the debate surrounding social media, stress, and adolescent mental health, highlighting both potential benefits and risks.
