João Pimentel

João Miguel de Almeida Martinho Martins Pimentel was born in Lisbon on July 3, 1972. He has been serving as the President of the Board of Directors of the Portuguese Institute for Quality (IPQ) since 2023. In this role, he represents IPQ on the COMPETE2030 Monitoring Committee and acts as an expert for CRESAP, appointed by the Ministry of Economy and the Sea. Additionally, he is the ambassador for SDG 9 – Infrastructure, Industry (UN / APEE), the president of the General Assembly of CEDINTEC, and a member of the Advisory Board of PIEP. 
Before joining IPQ, João Pimentel worked at IAPMEI as the Director of the Regional Proximity and Licensing Directorate. He also served as Administrator of the Technological Center for Ceramics and Glass and managed the Espaço Empresa Project. He was a member of the Permanent Support Commission for Investors (CPAI) and played a key role in fostering cooperation with PALOP countries. 
From 2003 to 2015, he worked at the Regional Directorate of Economy of Lisbon and Tagus Valley, where he held various positions, including Acting Regional Director of Economy and Director of Industry and Geological Resources Services. From 1995 to 2003, he worked at the General Directorate of Industry in several technical roles.
