The NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS) is set to establish a new campus in the municipality of Oeiras, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding today by João Sàágua, Rector of NOVA University Lisbon, and Isaltino Morais, Mayor of Oeiras.
During the signing ceremony, Miguel de Castro Neto, Dean of NOVA IMS, unveiled the project and stated, “From Oeiras, we aim to project data science and artificial intelligence on a global scale. Our ambition is to build a campus that is global, smart, sustainable, and social – serving not just students and faculty but the entire community.” He emphasized the school's goal to “leverage the knowledge, expertise, and quality of our human resources in a collaborative agenda that promotes the development of Oeiras.”
The construction of the new NOVA IMS campus is one of the key strategic projects that NOVA University Lisbon has planned for Oeiras. It should be noted that the ITQB NOVA - Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier has been established in the municipality for nearly three decades. With this memorandum of understanding, more projects from NOVA University Lisbon will be based in Oeiras, including the NOVA IMS campus, the newly created NIMSB – NOVA Institute for Medical Systems Biology, the NOVA Center for Contemporary Art and Culture, and the Colab Innov Gastronomy.
“We have a very ambitious academic and scientific plan that spans various schools and specific projects. This global project represents an investment of over 300 million euros by NOVA,” explained João Sàágua, Rector of NOVA University Lisbon, during the ceremony. In total, nearly 9,000 people from NOVA University Lisbon will study or work in Oeiras.
Highlighting the significance of the new NOVA IMS campus for the school's growth strategy, João Sàágua stated, “NOVA IMS is a cutting-edge school operating in a highly advanced field with an extraordinary future ahead. The new facilities will provide even better conditions for NOVA IMS to grow and excel further.”
Isaltino Morais, Mayor of Oeiras, echoed this vision, stating that the collaboration not only strengthens Oeiras' position as a hub of innovation and knowledge but also underscores the municipality's commitment to educational excellence and societal value. “NOVA IMS is a brilliant example of the academic excellence of NOVA University Lisbon. Its postgraduate and master's programs have consistently achieved exceptional rankings among the world's best. The new campus will allow NOVA IMS to continue growing and thriving, attracting even more top-tier students and professionals,” said Isaltino Morais.
