MagIC’s Contributions Recognized at NOVA Science & Innovation Day 2024

The NOVA Science & Innovation Day 2024, held on December 3 at the Rectorate of NOVA University Lisbon, brought together researchers and projects from across the university to celebrate impactful research and interdisciplinary collaboration. MagIC made notable contributions to the event, with its members participating in key sessions and receiving significant recognitions.

Highlights included:

  • Miguel de Castro Neto presenting the NexTCity project, showcasing how digital twins can advance sustainable urban planning.
  • Ian Scott providing insights into the ENCOMPAS project, addressing energy complexity in sustainable systems.
  • Leonardo Vanneschi receiving an honorable mention in the NOVA Research Impact Narratives and Awards session.
  • The publication “Structural similarity index (SSIM) revisited: A data-driven approach,” authored by Illya Bakurov, Mauro Castelli, and Leonardo Vanneschi, was recognized with a diploma for its outstanding contribution to scientific literature.
  • Vitor Duarte Santos highlighted the PAFSE project’s focus on science education in the Citizen Science session.
  • Fernando Bação joined a forward-looking roundtable discussion on the role of AI in transforming research and innovation.

In addition, MagIC PhD students Roshanak Agharafeie, Vesa Morina, and Daniel Moraes engaged the research community through their poster presentations during the innovation fair.

The event demonstrated the strength of NOVA’s interdisciplinary research ecosystem, with MagIC actively contributing to its success and impact.
