The NOVA Center for Global Health (NCGH) is NOVA IMS's contribution to advancing Global Health policy in Portugal. It promotes the generation and sharing of relevant knowledge in a field that is increasingly central to the international agenda, driven by globalisation, the growing complexity of health needs, climate change, and the scarcity of natural and energy resources. The NCGH places a strong emphasis on the use of digital technologies, data science, and information management, with infodemiology as one of its key focus areas.
As an academic centre with a strong sense of social responsibility, the NCGH aims to equip decision-makers and other key stakeholders in the global health ecosystem with the tools and skills needed to accelerate the translation of science-based recommendations into public policies, legislation, interventions, and educational initiatives that improve health outcomes and create long-term value.
The NCGH also plays an active role in positioning Portugal within international networks dedicated to knowledge-sharing, governance, prevention, preparedness, and the resilience of health systems. It collaborates with the World Health Organization (WHO) and major European and multilateral agencies, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals related to Global Health and reinforcing the country’s capacity to address current and future health risks.
