Mission
The mission of this Lab is to address the challenges of innovation in Geospatial Data Science by integrating Geographic Information Technology, Geographic Information Science, Programming, and Human Interaction to develop innovative solutions that improve the efficiency of institutional processes.
Objectives
- Coordinate, plan, and execute national and international research and development projects in Geographic Information Systems
- Prepare and evaluate technical proposals for public tenders
- Disseminate research findings through publications in scientific journals, other media, and conferences.
- Organize scientific meetings and R&D seminars
- Collaborate with business and public sectors through the development of projects, studies, and technical assessments
- Promote scientific and technological culture through various initiatives
- Integrate, mentor, and train young researchers
Areas
- Development of GIS Projects: the lab works on Geographic Information Systems with applications in environment, sustainability, transportation, and urban studies.
- Public Participation Projects: it supports and develops projects using spatial surveys to engage public participation.
- Web GIS and Spatial Data Infrastructures: it develops Web-based Geographic Information Systems and spatial data infrastructures tailored to projects and corporations.

- Course “Environmental Data Analysis”: Developed for the Abu Dhabi Environment Agency
- Angola Investment Portal: Development of a geographic information platform for business opportunities in Angola, for the Ministry of Economy and Planning of Angola, funded by the African Development Bank (LBC Global)
- Monitoring of Strategic Environmental Assessment: Creation of an Environmental Database for the General Secretariat for the Environment, under the Operational Program for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources (PO SEUR)
- Data Processing and Network Modeling: Project developed in partnership with Esri Portugal, 2021
