Student Elections

The electoral process to elect the student representative to the Institute Council of NOVA IMS will take place in December 2025.

Applications may be submitted until 09 December 2025, and the election will be held on 16 December 2025.

Elections for the Student Representative to the Institute Council – December 2025

This electoral process was scheduled by decision of the Dean, Professor Miguel de Castro Neto, under Article 14, Subparagraph v), of the NOVA IMS Statutes.

The Institute Council is composed of:

  1. One student;
  2. Seven faculty members, including at least two full professors, except when NOVA IMS has five or fewer full professors, in which case the number will be reduced to one;
  3. Three individuals external to NOVA University of Lisbon, appointed by the Rector.

This process aims to elect the student representative to the Council, following the end of the mandate of the previously elected student.

Important information:

  • The Student’s mandate is two years.
  • Undergraduate students who are in their first enrollment in the program are not eligible.

How will the electoral process take place?

  • Candidates must submit their applications via email to dean@novaims.unl.pt by 09 December 2025.
  • The Dean of NOVA IMS will announce the candidates by 12 December 2025.
  • If no applications are submitted, all students currently enrolled at NOVA IMS will be considered eligible, except undergraduate students in their first enrollment.
  • The election will take place on 16 December 2025.
  • The polling station will operate at the reception desk on the ground floor, from 09h00 to 19h00.
  • All currently enrolled students at NOVA IMS are eligible voters.
  • The election will be conducted by secret ballot, and each voter must vote for one of the candidates listed on the ballot. The student receiving the highest number of votes will be elected.
  • In the event of a tie, a new election will take place eight days after the first vote, among the candidates who received the highest number of votes in the first round.
  • Any candidate may submit a reasoned protest to the Dean of NOVA IMS regarding any irregularity during the electoral process. The Dean will adjudicate such protests within 48 hours.
  • The Dean of NOVA IMS, under his competence pursuant to Article 14, Subparagraph v), of the NOVA IMS Statutes, will announce the election results.
