The Open AI Alliance took GPT Chat to the next level
The Open AI Alliance Conference took place on the 25th of May at the Rectory of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and explored the future of Artificial Intelligence, taking GPT Chat to the next level!
Throughout the event, several experts gathered to discuss the impact and the future of artificial intelligence. These discussions were divided into 3 panels, namely:
- "The Future is Open AI: Challenges and Opportunities";
- "Changing the Game: Open AI in action";
- "Open AI Alliance: Driving Innovation and Changing Education".
The partnership agreement between NOVA IMS and Microsoft Portugal was signed and the session was closed by Mário Campolargo, Secretary of State for Digitalization and Administrative Modernization.
Open AI Alliance was also featured in several publications of Jornal Expresso, notably:
- "ChatGPT is the 'face' of Artificial Intelligence disruption";
- "Cannot stop this moving train" - Conclusions from the Conference;
- "The avatar that can solve basic problems";
- "Challenges and Opportunities in Artificial Intelligence".
NOVA IMS' Undergraduate Open Day
NOVA IMS warmly welcomed prospective undergraduate students on May 24th for an exciting Open Day event. Participants had a fantastic opportunity to engage with current and former students, course coordinators, and representatives from the Students' Union.
Throughout the visit, students were introduced to the many compelling aspects that make NOVA IMS an outstanding choice for their future education. They had the chance to explore various labs - namely the Marketing & Analytics, Innovation and Analytics and NOVA Cidade – Urban Analytics Lab.
The event also featured a captivating performance by TUIMS, NOVA IMS' Academic musical group, and the student Lourenço Lampreia.
NOVA IMS' Students' Union Inauguration
On May 29th, the Inauguration Ceremony of the new Governing Bodies of NOVA IMS' Students' Union took place at the INE Auditorium. The former President of the Students' Union, Constança Rodrigues, expressed her gratitude to everyone who supported the Association during the past term. The Dean of NOVA IMS, Miguel de Castro Neto, also addressed the audience, extending his wishes for success to the new members. The previous management of the Students' Union was praised for their achievements, dedication, and representation of the student community.
Volunteer Fair
On May 10th, the NOVA IMS Students' Union organized the Volunteer Fair at the NOVA IMS Patio. The main objective of this event was to introduce nine volunteer associations to the entire academic community, who shared relevant information on how to make a difference in the world.
It is crucial to broaden horizons, step out of one's comfort zone, and help others. Several themes were addressed during this event, always with the aim of making an impact on people's lives through giving.
Clipping: a retrospective on May's media headlines
- A study developed by Cotec Portugal, in partnership with NOVA IMS, concludes that "talent is the essential tool for innovation";
- The second debate that precedes the "Habitar Lisboa exhibition" took place at the CCB. The data integrated in the exhibition will be organized by the geographer João Ferrão and by the Dean of NOVA IMS, Miguel de Castro Neto;
- Lourenço Lampreia is an Information Management student at NOVA IMS and starred in one of the most memorable moments of the first night of Coldplay shows in Coimbra;
- NOVA IMS stands out with Master's and Postgraduate courses, being among the best in the world, in the TOP of Eduniversal's international ranking;
- NOVA IMS' Professor Guilherme Victorino discusses the future of employment;
- NOVA IMS’ NOVA Cidade – Urban and Analytics Lab highlighted in Smart Cities Magazine, on an article related to the topic of rethinking public spaces through Data Science and AI;
- Miguel de Castro Neto, NOVA IMS' Dean, discusses how cities can respond to the climate emergency.
Call for Proposals
- NOVA I’MSmart Challenge
The NOVA I'MSmart Challenge is an ideas contest that calls the NOVA IMS community to action! The aim is to create relevant actions aligned with the scope of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and that contribute to the quality of life and well-being in NOVA IMS' spaces.
The deadline for proposal submissions is June 11th and the project investment must not exceed €5,000.00.

- JOULE Data Journalism for Higher Education - Save the date!
The JOULE Project is producing its first Conference on Data Journalism: Opportunities and Challenges, on November 10th, and it will take place at NOVA IMS. The participants will have the opportunity to learn from experts about different aspects of data-related subjects. In parallel, there will be a designated area with a poster exhibition, where you can present your research. Submit your poster until June 30th.
