Biography
Manuela Aparicio is Pro-Rector for Educational Innovation, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal. Manuela Aparicio teaches at NOVA IMS, and is integrated researcher at MagIC. She holds a PhD in Information Management from NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS), Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL). Her research interests include education and pedagogical innovation, as well as the study of system use in teaching and learning, exploring student success within this context. She has proposed two distinct business models for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). She also investigates the impact of information systems use on digital transformation and value creation within organizations. Her work has been published in journals such as Information & Management, Journal of Educational Technology & Society, Internet and Higher Education, Computers in Human Behavior, and Journal of Innovation & Knowledge, among others. Manuela Aparicio is listed among the Top 2% most influential scientists in the world for the years 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, according to Stanford University. She is a member of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery), belongs to the European EuroSIGDOC chapter, as well as ACM Women. In 2023, she received the international Diana Award / ACM SigDOC’23.
