Biography

Sónia Pereira holds a Master’s degree in Finance and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Minho, both completed with a final grade of 17/20. Since 2009, she has been working at Banco de Portugal, in the Statistics Department, with experience in Non-Monetary Financial Institutions Statistics, General Government Statistics, and Financial Accounts. From 2018 to 2022, she was Head of the Monetary Financial Institutions Statistics Unit. She was responsible for the Statistical Quality Unit until mid-2025 and is currently responsible for the National Financial Accounts area. Her professional and research activity focuses on official statistics, from data compilation to statistical quality analysis and data dissemination. She is the author and co-author of several articles and conference papers presented at national and international forums, including the Bank for International Settlements, the European Conference on Quality in Official Statistics, JOCLAD, and the Portuguese Statistical Society, addressing topics such as data quality, statistical confidentiality, financial intermediation, investment funds, and the statistical implications of unconventional monetary policy.
