When Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the education sector around the world acted quickly, offering support to Ukrainian universities, students, professors and academics affected by the war in their country.
As a result of the recent armed conflicts in Ukraine, Portugal created a special program for the protection of Ukrainian citizens who fled the conflict, waiving the need for a visa.
NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS) follows the initiative of NOVA University Lisbon to welcome students, who will be able to enter their study cycles and complete their training in Portugal and also professors and researchers who can continue their work here.
Applications to NOVA IMS courses under the special competition for access and admission of students in a humanitarian emergency are intended for all citizens who are granted temporary protection resulting from the war in Ukraine, and may apply for the application of student status in an emergency situation for humanitarian reasons.
Ukrainian refugees from the current war benefit from the Special International Student Statute in their application to Higher Education, however with some modifications, namely: Access to social grants, including scholarships, and its exceptional equality with national students in terms of the payment of tuition fees, fees and emoluments.
Students admitted to NOVA IMS through this contest are exempt from paying any fee or tuition fee, for as long as they request it.
The admission of Students to NOVA IMS Programs in situations of humanitarian emergency arising from the military conflict in Ukraine may, by decision of the legally and statutorily competent body of the higher education institution, can be made through this public local contest.
Call for Applications Regulation and Applicable Legislation
Those benefiting from temporary protection may apply for the application of the status of student in an emergency situation for humanitarian reasons whose legal framework was created by Decree-Law no. 62/2018, of August 6th, with the specificities of the legal framework approved to support the granting of temporary protection to displaced persons from Ukraine (Council of Ministers Resolutions no. 29-A/2022 and 29-D/2022; Decree-Laws no. 24-B/2022 of March 11th, and no. 28-A/2022, of March 25th).
